EMILY STEERS

I grew up in four of the six New England states and spent my summers on the coast of Rhode Island. I love to run, bike, hike, practice yoga and do any activity that enables me to be outside communing with nature. I landed in the Valley a little over four years ago after living in Vermont for 10 years. The West was calling me and I was instantly warmed by Sopris’s sweet glow and the kindhearted folks that proudly call Carbondale home.

What got you into running?  Hiking?

I found a deeper connection to running in the hills of Franconia, N.H., while working as a counselor at Tamarack Tennis Camp. My daily runs were my time to breathe, find my own rhythm and simply let go and enjoy being free.

Tell us about your favorite race or running adventure.

I thoroughly enjoyed running the Moab 1/2 Trail marathon. It’s a simply magical journey through the desert with a bunch of fun, like minded folks.

What is your favorite local run?

My favorite local run is my journey to the sage fields at the top of Three Gulch trail on Red Hill. We stop in the field and treat ourselves to a few half-sun salutations. Our run back down the trail feels more like floating.

What is your favorite piece of running gear?

My Saucony Xodus trail running shoes are my favorite piece of running gear. They have a comfy fit, low drop, stable platform, super grippy tread and take me anywhere I want to go!

What is your favorite book or music album?

On The Road is one of my favorite books. I read it during my youth and it fueled my desire to travel, explore and be free.
