With all the spring like weather we are having now is a great time to start training for an early summer or spring race. Colorado has a ton of great races to offer so make sure to check out trailrunner or racing underground to find a full calendar of races.
Desert RATS Trail Running Festival – April 15th-16th
A weekend of fun and running on the beautiful trails near Fruita, Colorado. The weekend kicks off on Friday night with packet pickup and a pasta dinner. Saturday is the trail marathon and 50K, followed that night with a racer party at a local brewery. Sunday’s events include a 10K, half marathon, Easter egg hunt, kid’s races, and a pancake brunch. Sunday’s races did sell out in 2016, so get in early.
Sage Burner Trail Race – May 20th
This is a great early season race. Gunnison towers at 7,700 feet elevation, making it the perfect place for some good old-fashioned altitude running. Come check out some of the great terrain that Hartman Rocks has to offer. The majority of the course is on twisty desert single track that winds through the hills of Hartman rocks. There are definitely some hills but none that are too imposing, which means that the Sage Burner can serve as a great first 50k. The 25k is a great distance for this time of the year, it’s long enough to get your legs tired but not so long that you have to get in amazing shape for it.
Bolder Boulder 10K – May 29th
An iconic 10K in America’s running mecca. The Bolder Boulder is hands down one of the best 10Ks in the world. The energy surrounding this race is infectious, as the entire town turns out to celebrate running every Memorial Day.
Olympic medal winners and hopefuls, grandmothers and kids, running enthusiasts and one-race-a-year guests from all over the world come together at the foot of the Rocky Mountains to form one of the sport’s truly unique events. Each year there are 50,000+ participants and 70,000+ spectators at Folsom Field for what is probably one of the biggest and best Memorial Day celebration on earth.
